Grab
your make-up bag and make
yourself comfortable in front of the mirror...
RED
is definitely the SEXIEST colour
for LIPS. OH NO..! I hear you scream...don't
panic, here's the ultimate guide to choosing and using red
lippy..
A step-by-step guide to the
perfect pout
RED
lipstick comes in 100's of different shades.
This makes life very difficult because only one or two shades
will suit one individual.
The best guide is if you have brown, hazel or green eyes
you will suit WARM reds. If you have blue or grey eyes,
you will suit COOL reds, although this may vary depending
on you skin colour.
Cool
Warm
So how do you know which is which? Warm reds have more orangy
or rust tones, whilst cool reds have more blue in them,
like a fuscia pink or a purple-red (see the table above).
Always try to test the lipstick on your lips, ask the assistant
for a tester and then just run a cotton-bud over the lipstick
to apply.
Now, when you have selected your lipstick, follow the steps
below:
1.
Always clean your teeth and moisturise your lips before you
start applying your lipstick. I use Carmex or Blistex.
2 When you apply your powder to seal your foundation, puff
a little over your lips.
3 Draw a steady outline with your lip pencil to give yourself
an even lip shape.
4 Fill-in your lips using the same pencil. This creates a
very strong base for your lipstick.
5 Apply your lipstick in the manner you are used to, either
from the tube or with a lip-brush.
6 Blot you lips firmly with a tissue. Separate the tissue
into single-ply and press your powder-puff against your lips
through the tissue. Re-apply lipstick and blot lightly again.
7 Finally, put you index finger between your lips as if you
were sucking a lolly and you will remove any lipstick which
would have ended up on your teeth!
8 OK, now you're ready to hit the town!

It's hard to achieve a flawless foundation with only 5 minutes
to spare each morning, however, when you do get some extra
time, try this:
1. Moisturise your skin at least ten minutes beforehand -
this gives it time to soak into your skin.
2. If you have oily or combination skin, apply an oil-control
gel over the worst areas, ie. nose, chin. To help make your
foundation last longer apply a primer like Clarins 'Beauty
Flash Balm'*or Laura Mercier 'Foundation Primer'.
3. Opt for a foundation that is light in texture such as M.A.C
Face & Body Foundation which gives a very natural
finish, or 'Ariane Poole Mineral Tint Foundation'.
Always check the colour on your jaw line - it should match
the natural skin colour of your shoulder.
4. Apply evenly with your finger tips or a foundation brush,
going lightly around the eye area. For creamier foundations,
apply with a round sponge with downward strokes. Start from
your forehead and work down, leaving your eyes until last.
When all the face is covered, use a small brush to do the
eyelids.
5. Now cover up any dark under-eye circles using concealer
- use one that is very slightly lighter than your foundation
with yellow tones. I like MAC
Concealer as it really covers up those circles!
Only apply the concealer to the darkest areas using a small
brush and blend gently with your fingertips. Use a medicated
concealer on spots such as Dermalogica*.
6. If you have time, contour your face using a foundation
two shades darker than your skin. Create depth and shadow
in areas such as the cheeks and jaw. Use some highlighting
creme on the top of your cheek-bones to emphasise their shape.
(Please see tips below).
7. If you prefer a dewy finish stop here, or create a matt
finish by dabbing some cotton wool into loose translucent
powder then press onto the face, starting with the eyes. Make
sure there are no creases in your foundation before you do
this.
8. Finally, use a large brush to dust off any excess powder.
9. You're now ready to start applying the rest of your make-up!
